B-Boy Genetics:TRUE IN CREATIVE STYLE

You'd think that getting a second of this B-Boy slash hubby slash nine-to-fiver's time would be a near impossible feat. But being the "nice-guy" that he is, he gave us a few minutes. This is how it went down.

What up Bboy, thanks for taking the time to chat with us.

Its all good bro.

The last time we spoke face to face was almost a year ago, how have you been bro?

Yeah its been too long bro, we've been good bro just busy working, breaking and chilling with my wife.

First things first, why the name Genetics? Is there a story behind it?

Genetics haha yeah I took on that name when I turned 20 whilst living in the states. The story, well meaning behind the name is the first 4 letters of Genetics is the last 4 letters of my name Eugene.
Then the last 4 letters in Genetics the "tics" is an abbreviation for - True In Creative Style. Loads of people don't know that but I guess after this they will haha.

How did you get into Breaking ? How long have you been doing it for?

Wow, haha that's a question. I've always been exposed to breaking since I was a small kid, I think I was 7 when I saw the film Breakdance my dad hired that on BETA cassette haha that was way before VHS. In truth I loved it but I didn't really take it on that early but when I was about 14 I saw the RUN DMC - It's Like That music video and that's where it started for me and since then I've been breaking.
So since then its been 13 or 14 years deep in Bboying.

You’re repping Concrete Apostles now. Most of the members come from very successful crews or were successful as individuals, why did you guys choose to form a crew? And are you still down with ILL-ROCK?

To answer the last question first, I'm still down with iLL Rock they my family :)
I'm down with another crew too called Battle Holex Worldwide which is a crew formed with other international Bboys, so everything is cool.

Yeah my focus: Concrete Apostles was an idea that hit me in mid 2010 but only happened in 2011, well I didn't have the specific name back then but one night we were just hanging out with Ambrose, Carl, Charlton, Chaise, Barry, Jazzy and small Charlton and next thing you know we in the gardens in town late at night cyphering and that's when the name hit me, Concrete Apostles. Then the "Idea" which would be the rise of SA Bboying to put us back on the map Internationally and there is only one way of doing that and that's to Unite. So Concrete Apostles is a crew that has the same goals, passion and mindset in Breaking to put SA back on the International Scene and to regain that respect from our International Brothers and Sisters out there. I'm really happy that everyone I approached felt the same way and now we're a dope family and the guys are all inspiring each other to push to the next level which is so mal to see.  So the crew is open to more dancers who would like to achieve the same goals and there's a way to enter crew which we've posted on the facebook group, but we recommend rather to come chill with us and cypher if you wanna be down. Also all the crew members names are posted on the facebook group too.

Eugene and Genetics, is there a Clark Kent/Superman type vibe, or are they one and the same?

Haha!! Well I've thought about that a lot but through the years I've realised that Genetics is who I am the FREE me and Eugene haha that's my slave name fixed into bar-codes and numbers.

I don’t know if it’s because of McDonalds, or MTV, or both. But it’s like every other day there’s a new dance style or move driving kids crazy. Do you think Bboy as culture and a dance is still as relevant today as it was five years ago?

Yeah its like a trend for commercialism in one year and out the next but it will always be relevant to those who understand the elements of Hip Hop. Kids who show interest in the artform Bboying and culture of Hip Hop should be taught the foundation and history. This way it won't just be a latest craze or trend but it will be what it truly is, your lifestyle, your culture, your expression.

Where are we most likely to find Genetics when he’s not breaking or working? And what would he be doing there?

If I'm not breaking or working haha I'm spending time with my wife. If I'm not doing that then I'm playing PS3 or hanging with my crew.

Future plans?

Aahh the Future, I just got a skateboard so I'm gonna try taking that on hopefully I don't hurt myself haha. Other than that to travel again and battle Internationally and rep my Country.

Shout outs:

Well love to Foxxy South Africa's Finest and Freshest Bgirl. Love to iLL Rock, Concrete Apostles and Battle Holex. To friends and family mad love and lastly to all my haters I love you too. Peace

Thanks again bro, peace...

Anyone who's been to a Fam Feuds will tell you it is without question THE BUCKEST comp in town, and anyone who has seen the battle lists for the next one, will tell you that "FAM FEUDS 3.0 Warfare" IS going to be the GULLYIEST ONE YET!!!!
